The Feminist Coloring Book: Celebrating 300 Years of Literary Women honors women who prove that gender equality is not a fad. Printed alongside coloring pages, quotes from notable female writers serve to remind us that creativity, ingenuity of thought, and persistence are necessary in the practice of feminism and the practice of life. Our timeline begins with quotations from The Works of Anne Bradstreet, originally published in 1643, and ends with Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton, published in 1911. Over two hundred and fifty years of female excellence can be found here, including the likes of Mary Wollstonecraft, Jane Austen, Emily Dickinson and Sojourner Truth. These women inspired the artwork in the book and their words are included in the hopes of inspiring you. We invite you to participate in the meditative and creative practice of coloring while remembering women who championed generations.

Each author or feminist icon is introduced with information about her life, work, and passions; together they make up a book that offers an opportunity to learn about those who built the soap box I gladly stand on. Whether it was Sojourner Truth who escaped slavery, Jane Austen and her masterful prose, or Elizabeth Cady Stanton who dedicated her life to changing a political system that did not recognize her voice, women throughout history have fought against their oppressors. The lucky few were published, and their efforts deserve recognition. These were the women who rejected oppression before feminism was defi ned; they lived full, vibrant lives that are far more than what can be shown in black and white, so please, start coloring
