description
3This account primarily focuses on the Brewers who lived in northern Moore and southwestern Chatham counties in the period between 1750 and 1850. It undertakes to compile and integrate existing research with some newer information, including the early results of YDNA genetic testing of male descendants of the Brewer men from this region. It is a work in process, because the nexus between history and science that lies at the core of modern genealogy requires continuous updating and revision, as better historical evidence and improved genetic analytics and data emerge. One of the theses of this paper is that three reputed sons of George Brewer of Brunswick County, Howell I, Lanier I, and John, (and their descendants) had significant contacts with Northern Moore and Southwestern Chatham Counties between 1750 and 1850. Because the author suspects that he is a direct descendant of one of the more elusive figures among this cast of characters -- a man referred to here as Lanier Brewer II -- emphasis is placed on him and his relationship to the other Brewers in the area. To get a sense of the connections and movements of these families, the book begins with a chronology, based on publicly recorded data, of early Brewer presence in northern Moore County and the southwestern part of Chatham County, and then turns to a more detailed discussion of particular individuals. Individual subjects of extended discussion are Lanier Brewers I and II, the Howell Brewers, Ambrose Brewer, men Named Drury Brewer, Harmon Brewer, Willis Brewer, Sampson Brewer, Micajah (Cager), Nicholas Brewer of Bear Creek, and the Tick Creek Brewers of Southwest Chatham County.
