• "Best of" Lists - Every book now includes a variety of additional illustrated "Best of" lists (best things to eat, see, do, drink, as well as what to read and watch before going) that will visually engage the reader and provide an overview of the entire destination.
• Other useful features include Great Itineraries, a Calendar of Events, and a list of the best Under the Radar sights and attractions that most visitors miss.
• "Travel Smart" (logistical planning tips section) has been moved to the front of the book and redesigned to be more infographic in feel.
• Neighborhood Chapters - City guides are now organized by neighborhood chapters, where you'll find all categories about that neighborhood, including sights, restaurants, hotels, and nightspots in the same convenient chapter. Each category will receive an icon that will be repeated throughout the book
• More images - Better use of full- and half-page images throughout the book.
• Stronger Voice and Opinions - The tone and language of all Fodor's guides are more friendly and conversational, offering stronger opinions and more personality. Fodor's goes beyond informational to being inspirational.

TOURISM TRENDS:

• The San Francisco Travel Association reported its tenth year of record-breaking tourism levels in 2019. Total visitor volume hits 26.2 Million, up 1.4 percent while visitor spending exceeded $10.2 billion, up 2.7 percent.
• The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 caused a steep drop-off in tourism to many destinations, but interest in domestic U.S. travel (especially to destinations that can be reached by car) increased in mid-2020 and surveys have shown that this likely to increase further in 2021 once a wider group of Americans is vaccinated.
• In August 2020, the San Francisco Travel Association adjusted its projections for 2020 to address the impact of COVID-19. The destination marketing organization projected a total of 12.9 million visitors to the city for 2020, down 53.1 percent from 26.2 million in 2019. Visitor volume is expected to recover to 18.4 million for 2021, still down 30 percent to 2019. Gradual improvement will be driven primarily by domestic visitation.
• Additions to the San Francisco hotel market include RIU Plaza Fisherman's Wharf which reopened after $35 Million renovations and the Four Seasons at Embarcadero which opened in late 2020. CitizenM San Francisco will open in Union Square in late 2020 and 1Hotel San Francisco is slated to open in the Embarcadero in early 2021.
