School is fun and enjoyable for most children, but when reading and writing are difficult, school can seem like a scary place. When letters and words seem mixed up and strange, a child may feel confused and think that learning is impossible. Throughout the school day, the main character is very afraid to participate in school and wishes he could just stay home. He feels very sad, but after speaking with his teacher, he learns that even though he struggles to read and write, he should never give up. There are many ways to learn. With hard work and practice, his teacher shows him that it is okay to learn differently and that reading and writing can be fun!
