Salary: 
The average Systems Engineer salary in the United States is $84,372 as of February 26, 2020, but the salary range typically falls between $75,099 and $93,656.
 
Education:
Systems Engineers usually have at least a bachelor's degree in a technical field, such as computer science or computer engineering. Some senior-level positions may require a master's degree. In many cases, systems engineers gain experience as a programmer before moving into systems engineering.
 
Skills and Requirements: 
The top core skills for systems engineering are information security, integration, and security. 
Monitoring and managing all installed systems and infrastructure.
Researching software, hardware, and equipment necessary to optimize output.
Work with professionals in other fields, such as marketing and management, to troubleshoot and find optimal solutions.
 
Career-Boosting Skills 
Systems Engineer should be proficient in data architecture and programming as well as have knowledge in performance tuning of application stacks, Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, Ruby, and NGINXs. 
A good cloud experience, i.e., Amazon’s AWS, MS Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
Experience with virtualization, VMware, and network experience viz. TCP/IP
 
Can You Become a Systems Engineer Without a Degree?
The role of a systems engineer depends on the company and the type of product. Much of the concepts behind systems design/development is the same as with software design/development. The overall requirements such as choosing which interfaces to handle, the performance criteria, how to verify end solutions and get it accepted and etc., are in the same line of thinking.  By participating in all aspects of product development, acquiring domain knowledge, and understanding the ‘how and why’ of applying creative technology throughout the organization, you can transition from a related field such as software programming, software architect, or a software designer.
