Christie McVie RIP

I woke this morning to the sad news of Christie McVie's passing.  Suffice it to say, it has been a melancholy day.

I am flooded with memories of Fleetwood Mac from the first time I heard Rumours to a recent conversation I had with a dear friend about Bob Marley and the Wailers, the warmup band for their 1980 European tour. More than just memories though, it is the indelible mark her songs have had on me that moves my soul.

Christie's skill as a songwriter in concert with the musical talents of her fellow bandmates, put Fleetwood Mac as an outlier in the world of pop stardom:  incredibly deep and quite refined. Who else could put the pain of love and adulthood in such a perfect chorus?  As Dan Flynn wrote:

She came into the world Christine Perfect, and on the last track of the first side  of  Rumours  she lived up to that name. Could anyone but a beautiful soul create something so beautiful? Christine McVie, rest in peace.

  • I have a dear friend named David R. who's recently become a huge blues rock guitar fan.  In fact, he purchased a newer ZZ Top CD and an older Johnny Winter/Rick Derringer live album circa 1970 to turn me on to what are some of his favorites.  I would like to return the favor.  However, since he travels a lot and does not have access to a fine CD player (I am a HiFi snob) and because ...
